Since Tanzania, Africa is in the southern hemisphere, February is the peak of their summer. It was a hot day with a strong breeze. The lion had finished eating a large animal (it's unsure if it was a wildebeest or zebra) so the hundreds of zebra below the rock didn't phase him much.
